Our morning started off rough yesterday. Lately the girls have decided the time to wake up is 6am. Currently I’m writing this at 6:39am while struggling to keep both of them in their beds. Sleep children! But as yesterday progressed it started to lighten up, and then we were blessed with glorious three and four hour naps! At first I ran around the house getting all the “needs to get done” list done. I didn’t know if I would have 45 minutes or more so I sped through. But then as one hour turned in to two hours I decided to tackle a new project.
Since living in an apartment, my closet has been overpacked and filled to its bursting brim. I was tired of pushing through stacks to get to the four shirts I wear on rotation. While all of my clothes now fit my post-pregnancy body, not all of them are clothes I particularly wanted to wear. My wardrobe was looking tired which is a shame because I’ve shopped quite a bit this month. It was time to liven things up.
I keep stumbling on capsule wardrobes and love the idea. Mainly because this is how I already live, but instead of removing the garbage I just let it hang there while I wear the same 10 outfits on repeat. Now I needed the space, the clear air, and I had the time! My bedroom quickly became a mess as pieces left my closet and were tossed to separate piles. Goodwill, sell, keep and pack away for another season. All that was left in the closet were the items that were my favorites and seasonally appropriate.
It’s not exactly a capsule wardrobe. I have 40 pieces not including shoes. It’s not all perfectly coordinating and accessorized (as is the purpose of a capsule wardrobe) but it is minimalistic. Here’s what I kept.
- 6 jeans (whoa! probably too many)
- 5 sleeve-less blouses
- 4 short sleeve tees
- 1 long sleeve tee
- 5 blouses/shirts
- 1 sweatshirt
- 4 sweaters
- 3 dresses
- 4 skirts
- 6 shorts
It is a breath of fresh air!

Alex was home from work last night so I enjoyed a much needed break in the afternoon and help with bath and bed times. I used to take for granted all the time we had together. Now it is such a treat. He isn’t working at all this weekend so I’m busy making fun plans for us to celebrate his birthday!
